Comic: Friday, July 10, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kari Maaren @ 12:55 am

Yeah…as I said in the comments section of the last post, I think the computer dudes have given up on the alum site for now.  Some people are going to have a meeting about it on July 15.  With great good luck, someone will approve some money for a new hard drive.  If not…well, I don’t know what I’m going to do, especially since I have a sneaking feeling that a lot of the pages of the alum site are…er…sort of on my really dead laptop and nowhere else.  I MAY have backed them up on a USB key, but it is in Toronto, and I am in Calgary, so I can’t check.  I was counting on the fact that they were all online.  Ha ha ha.  Sigh…

So until further notice, the comic will be posted in this blog, as well as here.  The former doesn’t have all the comics, and the latter doesn’t have an archive page.  I am probably going to cry soon.  Why do computers hate me?

Below please find today’s comic, as well as a piece of Fan Stuff (which I would post on the “Fan Stuff” page if the goddamn site were bloody well working) by Nur Hussein.  I believe the idea is that the Lego people have been teleporting around the world; they are ending their journey at Davies College, where, of course, it’s poor Marie who gets to see them.  Thanks for this, Hussein.

  1. *pats Kari sympathetically* There is no feeling worse than the helplesness in the face of a computer crash. “But…but…I put work into this stuff! It has to be somewhere!”

(At that, don’t ask how I found out, but decent data recovery programs do exist…)

As for the comic: Oh, I adore Rahim. His friends are melting down all around him and he instinctively goes for the snark.

And wait a sec…Casey lied? Casey is admitting that he…OK, this is gonna be good.

  2. Yay for Hussein!

And yay for Casey for developping a conscience! So he knows that he lied – good to know that.

Kari, thanks for keeping us updated in spite of all the computer chaos. Hope your data can be recovered somewhere and somehow. (Don’t ask me how many backups of my dissertation files I spread in the world while I was working on it … Of course, there being so many backups, nothing went wrong …)

Could you post your monday rants here, too? I should be sorry to miss them.

  3. Thanks, guys. Computers really suck.

Did the latest Rant go up at all? I can’t even remember, and obviously, I can’t check.

  4. Having a relative that got stuck in a psych ward due to over a year of sleep deprivation catching up with her, I’d rather have my breakdowns outside the psych ward too. Those doctors are a bit malicious.

Heh, yay for Hussein’s Lego minions.

  5. If I remember correctly, there was a rant last Monday.

About Casey developing a conscience: that would depend. Is he describing his behaviour in the last few months, or just on this day? I could see him needing to lie to Marie, shout at her and call her crazy in the process of getting her to the hospital.

  6. Well…possibly the worst thing you can do to someone in the middle of a psychotic episode is shout accusations of insanity. Casey did make the mistake of touching her while she was detached from reality, but it doesn’t seem to have bothered her, so that was a lucky break. He probably could have lied himself blue in the face to her without consequences; she didn’t really know he was there.

  7. 1) Re: Casey — AHA!

    2) So, I recently bought a Neil Young (infamous Canadian) album entitled “Live at Massey Hall.” Would this be your Massey?

    3) Computers suck. I am very sorry.

  8. Earthgirl: No. Massey Hall is also in Toronto, and Massey College occasionally gets people wandering by and asking where the concert is, but they’re not actually very close to one another at all. Massey Hall was financed by Hart Massey (the Masseys being an influential Toronto family); after his death, some of his money went to the creation of the Massey Foundation, which sponsored the building of Hart House (U of T’s student centre) and, some time later, Massey College (among other things). Yes, I had to check the demon Wikipedia for some of the more fiddly details.

I am amused at how everyone is reacting to Casey’s little breakdown…

  10. Hi, Chouette. Yeah, that looks very cool…but no, it doesn’t appear to be working at the moment. Stupid Internet.
