March 18 – 30, 2013

What a silly weekend it has been.  Let us continue the story of Marie’s defence and Barbara and Rahim’s investigation into Casey.  With luck, Marie will just keep on spouting improbably large words, and no one will notice how tired she is.

  1. I’m trying to think if you would need more or less shampoo if you had snakes for hair.

  2. I love Marie’s expression in the third panel. “Has Dr Stephens always had snakes for hair?” In all seriousness, seeing snakes as someone’s hair would be kind of creepy. She looks so calm…

  3. clearly the snakes are simply behind Dr. Stephens waiting for their turn for the final snake fight. http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/faq-the-snake-fight-portion-of-your-thesis-defense

  5. SHE WAS RIGHT! My best friend theorized that Marie was the pyro, not Casey. She was right!

  7. MP: No, Ad Astra. I’ve done four Ad Astra comics now, I think. It happens for real next weekend.

  8. The one thing I find underwhelming about Steampunk is the way that any fanmade contraptions tend to be at least one order of magnitude smaller than the scale on which the victorians actually built things… Unfortunately, without an abundance of space and money (not to mention time) it becomes rather difficult for fanmade steampunk to live up to what the genre should be… Just an observation that occurred to me.

  9. MercenaryPen: Yes, absolutely. You could sort of sense the same frustration in the Doctor Who episode “The Next Doctor,” which involved a FREAKING ENORMOUS Steampunk Cyberman. The Guild also tried to do something about the scale problem last season by having the characters build a working Steampunk balloon and fly it into the room during a convention’s costume contest. But yes, even the enormous fake guns Steampunk cosplayers carry around tend to be disappointing as far as size is concerned.
